T.G.I.F....

Quote for the day:
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.  ~Anatole France

Here we are at Oct. 1, 2010.  Today is my first day of work at the new hospital.

The old hospital is open till Sunday, Oct. 3 when they will transfer all patients over to the old hospital.  But today they start moving the equipment and supplies from our department over to the new hospital.  I will be one of the worker bees at the new hospital to receive those supplies, clean them, and then put them away.  Some of my colleagues will be at the old hospital preparing the equipment and supplies to be transported to the new facility.

We will not have any patients at the new facility for another 2 days, but we must ready the place for when they come.

I have seen an unexpected amount of melancholy about leaving the old facility from some of the employees.  I am surprised at how strong the emotion is for some.  Since we live in a small rural area, for some employees this is the only hospital they have ever worked at in their career...which is a foreign thought for me having moved many times in my life and having worked at quite a few hospitals in my career.

As for me, I am really looking forward to the new facility.  Uppermost is that it is closer to me and much easier to get to.  However, I'm also looking forward to the "newness" of the facility.  It has been built to be state-of-the-art.  I'm tired of the "oldness" of the old facility and it has become even worse looking in the last few weeks as ancillary departments have already moved out.  It's weird to walk past an office, look in and find it stripped of EVERYTHING, including the cabinets that were on the walls!  Walk down the halls at the old facility and all pictures have been removed from the walls and excess equipment has already been moved out.  It looks quite desolate/barren there now.

In the lobby there was a HUGE picture (it took up a whole wall from floor to ceiling) of Jesus raising a lame man to help him walk.  This picture is worth a lot of money and this past summer it was restored.  About a month ago, they removed the picture and moved it to the new facility.  As I walked into work that day I saw the picture was gone and all I could think was "Jesus has left the building...this CAN'T be good!"

Anyway...onto the decluttering at home...
Last evening when I cleaned out the drawer in the bathroom I came across this:

It had belonged to Andy so I didn't throw it away until I had a chance to ask him about it.  I think he was outside at the time so I didn't bother asking him right then but later last night I asked him about it.  He couldn't remember buying it, owning it, or using it...so he said "toss it"...
So that's my toss for today!

Now...I have to go do errands before work...
Have a great day and leave a comment to let me know what you "released" into the wild today!

  1. This is so fun and it's only day 3! I don't think I got rid of anything the past two days, but today I went through Trekker's closet to get ready for winter and put 5 things in the goodwill box and a whole stack in the Andrew box. Does that count? or does it have to be out of the house first? Tina

  2. Tina,
Putting things aside to give away does count! Just be sure to put them in a box or bag, etc. so that you don't have to keep moving them from place to place.
Glad to see you are coming along with me on this journey!

  3. I hope you had a good day and all went well at the new hospital today. Your first shift in the new hospital! How exciting!

I got addicted to an Avon foundation back when I was selling Avon. I was going to order some more but it looks like they are no longer making it. Thankfully I found a new one a lot like it by another company. Also it is about half as expensive!

So I went through all of my really old foundations and threw away all of the items that I know I will never use again. My makeup box is much more organized and now I don't have to root through all those other foundations. :)
